Reflected
and
Balanced

Dr Rachel Briggs

welcome to reflected and Balanced

Are you responsible for educators’ development and/or wellbeing (including your own) and looking for bespoke support that’s more than a tick-box exercise?

Do you want to better understand educators’ psychological wellbeing, including the unique challenges and benefits associated with educating children and young people who live with vulnerabilities, trauma &/or other additional needs?

The aim of Reflected and Balanced is to support with both of these areas.  On the website you'll find information on the services that I offer* (reflective supervision, coaching and training/speaking).  You'll also find information that can help researchers, educators, and those who have a responsibility for educator wellbeing, to better understand educators' work-related psychological wellbeing.  The information provided draws on my experience as a teacher, my research and the related theories/literature which underpin my practice. It is split into two key areas.  Firstly, the information on the psych wellbeing pages explores language related to mental health, stress and wellbeing, and provides a framework for understanding educators' workplace psychological wellbeing.  Secondly, the information on the compassionate acting pages focuses in more detail on the potential impact on psychological wellbeing of working with children and young people who are living with vulnerabilities and/or trauma, as this is a perspective on workplace wellbeing which is often overlooked in the education sector.

I hope that the information provided can support with conversations about wellbeing and help with the identification of psychological hazards and with reducing the risk of harm to employees' psychological wellbeing**.  For more information, please use the contact form or contact details below.

*I'm insured to work in the UK and internationally.

**NB The information on this website is not a substitute for seeking advice or treatment from a medical or clinical professional related to mental ill-health or illness.

I have over 30 years’ experience in the education sector, working as a teacher, SENCo, DSL, deputy head (including periods as acting and co-head) and in-service teacher trainer.  I've worked in England, the USA, The Gambia and Egypt.  In addition to my employment in schools, I've worked as an external coach, mentor, trainer, consultant, supervisor, and researcher.

Drawing on my master’s and doctoral research, and additional training in supervision, I currently offer reflective supervision, coaching and training in understanding and supporting educators’ workplace psychological wellbeing, including the unique psycho-social risks (compassion stress injuries) and benefits (compassion satisfaction) associated with educating children and young people living with vulnerabilities and/or trauma.

"Your session was detailed, supportive and helpful for the students and it also helped to enrich and develop the teaching that students received back in September and October.  I hope it is ok to reach out to you later this year and to look to working with you again in the future!”  PGCE Programme Lead.

Coaching

Coaching with Rachel has:
“re-affirmed my own belief in my own self-worth and self-ability and what’s the word I’m looking for? Resilience.  I said really early on in the coaching that I know that I won’t let me down and that’s just got stronger and stronger.”  Deputy Head.
